Our Mission
Our mission is to protect human health and the environment.When Congress writes an environmental law, we implement it by writing regulations. Often, we set national standards that states and tribes enforce through their own regulations. If they fail to meet the national standards, we can help them. We also enforce our regulations, and help companies understand the requirements. Learn more about our mission and what we do.
Drought
The Water Finance Center provides financing information to help local decision makers make informed decisions for drinking water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure to protect human health and the environment.
Water Pollution
When the water in our rivers, lakes, and oceans becomes polluted; it can endanger wildlife, make our drinking water unsafe, and threaten the waters where we swim and fish. EPA research supports efforts under the Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act.
Air
The Clean Air Act requires EPA to set National Ambient Air Quality Standards for six common air pollutants. These pollutants are found all over the U.S. They can harm your health and the environment, and cause property damage.
